Snorkelling Experience

Turquoise water, rocky coves and Mediterranean marine life — Sardinia beneath the surface.

Duration: 3.5–4.5 hoursPace: ActiveBest for: Confident swimmers and water lovers who want active time in the Gulf of Angels rather than a passive boat rideRegister interest

The Gulf of Angels is not just photogenic from Bastione San Remy — underwater, rocky seabeds host octopus, sea bream, damselfish and the occasional moray eel in visibility that regularly exceeds ten metres on calm days. A Snorkelling Experience pairs boat access to the best coves near Cagliari with guided sessions, equipment and safety oversight, all scheduled around your Stazione Marittima all-aboard time.

Excursions typically combine a short boat transfer from a marina near the cruise port with one or two snorkelling stops at protected inlets along the Sella del Diavolo coast or toward Capo Carbonara. Guides identify marine species, manage group safety and choose sites matched to conditions — sheltered bays when wind picks up, outer coves when the sea is flat.

Equipment — mask, snorkel, fins and often wetsuit tops — is provided. Basic swimming confidence is essential; you do not need diving certification. Sessions last 45–60 minutes in the water with rest periods on deck between stops, making the total outing manageable on a standard five-hour port call.

Return timing is critical for active water excursions. Operators monitor sea state and your ship's schedule, avoiding late-afternoon sites that require long returns through harbour traffic. Build in 60 minutes buffer before all-aboard at the Stazione Marittima — your guide's job is to get you back dry, changed and at the gangway with time to spare.

  • Snorkelling equipment and safety briefing
  • Boat transport to snorkelling sites
  • Licensed guide or dive instructor

Getting there from the cruise port

Departs from marinas 10–20 minutes from the Stazione Marittima cruise terminal. Allow time to change after swimming. Plan 60 minutes return buffer before all-aboard — water excursions need margin for sea conditions and equipment return.

Tips for cruise passengers

  • Bring your own mask if you need prescription lenses or a guaranteed fit
  • Reef-safe sunscreen only — protect the marine environment
  • Not suitable for non-swimmers or young children without prior arrangement
  • Morning departures often offer calmer seas and better visibility
